A process for preparing polyaminotriazines represented by the following formula(I): Image (I) wherein n is a number from 2 to 20; X1,X2,X3 and X4 is hydrogen or piperidyl; R is alkylene or a divalent cycloaliphatic group; and Q is -OR3, -NHR4 or -NR4R5 wherein R3, R4 and R5 is alkyl etc., which comprises; reduction alkylamination of a tetramethylpiperidone with a diamine represented by the following formula(IIb), NH2 - R - NH2 (IIb) wherein R is as defined above, in the presence of hydrogenating catalyst; removing off the catalyst after the completion of the reaction to obtain a crude product(A); and then, without refining the crude product(A), carrying out a polycondensation reaction between the crude product(A) and a dichlorotriazine in an aromatic solvent in the presence of an inorganic base.
