A crystalline material sufficiently pure for use in pharmaceuticals may be made by forming a saturated solution of the material, changing the temperature of the solution so it becomes supersaturated, and briefly subjecting the solution to irradiation by high intensity ultrasound, before allowing the solution to cool gradually without further irradiation. The ultrasound may be applied using a vessel with an array of ultrasonic transducers attached to a wall, so each transducer radiates no more than 3 W/cm2 yet the power dissipation within the vessel is between 25 and 150 W/litre. This method can reduce the metastable zone width to less than 10 K. There is no erosion of the wall and consequently no formation of small particles of metal. It is applicable for example to aspartame, and to amino acids.

L'invention concerne une substance cristalline suffisamment pure pour être utilisée dans des médicaments que l'on obtient par la formation d'une solution saturée de la substance, par la modification de la température de la solution de manière à la rendre super-saturée, et par l'émission brève d'ultrasons à forte intensité sur la solution, précédant le refroidissement progressif de la solution sans rayonnement. L'ultrason peut être appliqué à l'aide d'un récipient doté d'un réseau de transducteurs ultrasonores fixés à une paroi, de manière que chaque transducteur n'envoie pas plus de 3 W/cm?2¿, la dissipation de puissance du récipient étant comprise entre environ 25 et 150 W/litre. Ce procédé permet de réduire la largeur de zone métastable à moins de 10 K. La paroi ne subit aucune érosion et il n'y a, de ce fait, pas de formation de petites particules métalliques. L'invention trouve une application, par exemple, avec l'aspartame et les acides aminés.
