A system, apparatus and method for enabling interaction between a mobile device and a dynamic list of remotely hosted applications. A mobile device is provided with a removable module implementing a virtual machine defined by a set of instructions. The mobile device requests an initial application from an application server. The application server generates a message, including a set of commands and any parametric information, such as text to be displayed, whidi is then compiled into executable code. The exeaxtable code is then forwarded to the mobile device for execution. The mobile device interprets the executable code and runs it, possibly causing text or a menu to be display ed. In a first embodiment, the mobile device requests a list of currently avatlable applications and is provided with such a list by a first app fication server. The user is then able to select from the list of app fications, somewhidi can be located on other servers. In another embodiment, an application server initiates a communication by transmitting a set of commands causing one or more actions on the mobile device, such as the sounding of an audio alarm, the display ingof text, etc.

Un appareil mobile est prévu avec un module déposable qui implémente une machine virtuelle définie par une série d'instructions. L'appareil mobile demande une application initiale d'un serveur d'applications. Ce dernier crée un message comprenant une série de commandes et des informations paramétriques, par exemple du texte à afficher, qui sont ensuite compilées en un code exécutable. Ce code est alors transmis à l'appareil mobile pour exécution. L'appareil interprète le code exécutable et le met en fonction, ce qui peut provoquer l'affichage du texte ou d'un menu. Dans une première réalisation de l'invention, l'appareil mobile demande une liste d'applications couramment disponibles et reçoit cette liste d'un premier serveur d'applications. L'utilisateur peut alors faire une sélection de la liste d'applications, celles-ci pouvant être présentes sur d'autres serveurs. Dans une autre réalisation de l'invention, un serveur d'applications amorce une communication en transmettant une série de commandes, ce qui induit d'autres opérations sur l'appareil mobile, par exemple une alarme audio, l'affichage de texte informatif, etc.
