A superconducting magnetic coil (10) in- cludes a plurality of sections (12a-12i) posi- tioned axially along the longitudinal axis of the coil, each section being formed of an anisotropic high temperature superconductor material wound about a longitudinal axis of the coil and having an associated critical cur- rent value that is dependent on the orientation of the magnetic field of the coil. The cross section of the superconductor, or the type of superconductor material, at sections along the axial and radial axes of the coil are changed to provide am increased critical current at those regions where the magnetic field is oriented more perpendicularly to the conductor plane, to thereby increase the critical current at these regions and to maintain an overall higher crit- ical current of the coil.

Bobine d'aimant supraconducteur (10) présentant plusieurs segments (12a-12i) disposés le long de son axe longitudinal et constitués chacune d'un matériau supraconducteur anisotrope à haute température bobiné autour de l'axe longitudinal de la bobine, et dont l'intensité critique associée dépend de l'orientation du champ magnétique de la bobine. La section transversale du conducteur ou bien le type de matériau supraconducteur des différents segments de la bobine varient selon leur position le long des axes longitudinaux ou radiaux de façon à permettre une intensité critique supérieure dans les zones où le champ magnétique est le plus perpendiculaire au plan du conducteur, ce qui permet d'augmenter l'intensité critique dans ces zones et de maintenir une intensité critique globale plus élevée dans la bobine.
