An axial length control agent comprising a TGF-.beta. regulating substance as an active ingredient. More particularly, an axial elongation inhibitor comprising a TGF-.beta. activator, specifically a plasminogen activator, as an active ingredient, which is an agent for the prophylaxis and treatment of myopia. An axial elongation agent comprising a TGF-.beta. activation inhibitor, particularly a plasminogen activator inhibitor, as an active ingredient, which is an agent for the prophylaxis and treatment of myopia. In addition, a commercial package comprising any one of the above-mentioned axial length inhibitors and a written indicating the use thereof. The axial length control agent of the present invention controls elongation of the axial length, and is extremely useful for the prophylaxis and treatment of myopia or hyperopia. It is also useful for preparing experimental model animals having eyes with complete axial myopia or hyperopia exclusive of refractive myopia or hyperpia.
