An axle (12) and adapter bracket (30) assembly alone and in combination with a suspension and comprising a lightly compressible spacer (48) between the two for a slight adjustment of the axle with respect to the axle bracket after the weld operation. Preferably, the axle and adapter bracket assembly comprises an axle adapter bracket having an arcuate surface (44) supporting the axle and an axle welded to the axle bracket along longitudinal surfaces of the adapter bracket. A lightly compressible spacer is provided between the adapter bracket and the axle. The lightly compressible spacer is preferably in the form of flexible elastomeric foam tape strips. A compressive connector, such as a U- bolt (38), can be used to compressively retain the axle to the axle adapter bracket and apply a compressive force that counter the residual tensile stress in the weld.
L'invention porte sur un ensemble composé d'un essieu (12) et de son support (30) d'adaptation seul ou intégré à une suspension et comportant une entretoise (48) légèrement compressible disposée entre ces deux éléments pour permettre un léger ajustement de l'essieu par rapport au support après l'opération de soudure. Ledit ensemble comporte de préférence un support d'adaptation présentant une surface incurvée (44) où repose l'essieu, et l'essieu soudé au support le long de ses surfaces longitudinales, ainsi que la susdite entretoise qui consiste de préférence en bandes de mousse élastique d'élastomère. On peut utiliser un élément de compression, tel qu'un boulon en U (38) pour maintenir l'essieu sur le support d'adaptation, et appliquer une force de compression qui s'oppose aux contraintes résiduelles de tension de la soudure.
