A method and apparatus are disclosed by which a translucent logo is inserted into the transcoded digital bitstream of an MPEG transcoder without changing the digital nature of the bitstream. Such an MPEG transcoder has cascaded decoding and encoding sections. A translucent logo is generated and is added to the reconstructed video image produced by the decoder section of the MPEG transcoder upstream of the transcoder's encoding section. The encoding section of the transcoder then encodes the bitstream which includes the translucent logo.

Cette invention a trait à un procédé, ainsi qu'à l'appareil correspondant, permettant d'incorporer un logo translucide au train de bits numérique transcodés d'un transcodeur à norme MPEG et ce, sans modifier la nature numérique du train de bits. Ce transcodeur à norme MPEG possède des unités de décodage et de codage en cascade. Un logo translucide est produit et ajouté à l'image vidéo reconstruite produite par l'unité de décodage du transcodeur en amont de l'unité de l'unité de codage de ce dernier. L'unité de codage du transcodeur code alors le train de bits porteur du logo translucide.
