PROCESS FOR PREPARING ANHYDRIDE- TERMINATED THERMOPLASTIC POLYMERS Abstract of the Disclosure Thermoplastic polymers having recurring carbonate units in the main chain, such as polycarbonates, may be functionalized with anhydride functional groups by effecting a catalytic transesterification of hydroxy-terminated thermoplastic polymers, such as a polycarbonate, with a trimellitic anhydride salicylate ester, preferably trimellitic anhydride phenyl salicylate ester (TMA- PSE). Anhydride functionalized polycarbonates may be used to form ductile, solvent resistant blends with polyamides.
