The device according to the invention for monitoring two sheet products (20, 22) transported by means of a clamp (12) of a transport device (10) has at least two sensors (32, 34) that are intended to generate signals on the basis of which the number of products (20, 22) held in the clamp (12) can be determined. A first sensor (32) hereby generates a first detection signal referred to as reference signal when a clamp (12) passes a reference area (38) assigned to this first sensor (32). The second sensor (34) is arranged in such a way that it generates a second detection signal when at least one section of one of the products (20, 22) in a second side edge area (29) free from the clamp (12) passes through its assigned detection area (40).
