An environmentally protected, substantially sealed connector for attachment to acable having a plurality of electrical conductors which are terminated at an end thereof with a contact, including a housing having a floor with a plurality of aperturestherethrough arranged in a predetermined pattern and a backshell extending from the floor of the housing and encompassing the extended axes of the apertures, the backshell having at least one bead portion protruding from an outer surface of the outer backshell and extending at least partially around the backshell. A plurality of electrical contacts are disposed within the housing, each of the electrical contacts having a portion extending through one of the apertures and adapted to mate with one of the contact-terminated electrical conductors. Each of the electrical contacts has a locking member for retaining the associated contact in a fixed relationship to the floor. A diametrically shrinkable sheath extends from and is shrunk annularly about an exterior of the backshell, with a portion of the sheath engaging the bead. The sheath is also adapted to encompass an exterior of the cable of electrical conductors. An adhesive having a flow state is disposed within the sheath to coat at least portions of the electrical contacts of the cable of conductors when the sheath is shrunk about the cable and onto the backshell, to thereby insulate the coated portions of the contacts and sealingly protect them from the environment.
Connecteur substantiellement scellé et protégé contre les éléments se fixant à un câble ayant plusieurs conducteurs électriques qui se terminent à un bout par un contact, comprenant un boîtier qui a un plancher avec une pluralité d'ouvertures agencées selon un motif prédéterminé et une enveloppe de renfort s'étendant à partir du plancher du boîtier et entourant les axes prolongés des ouvertures, l'enveloppe de renfort ayant au moins une nervure faisant saillie sur la surface extérieure de l'enveloppe de renfort extérieure et s'étendant au moins partiellement autour de l'enveloppe de renfort. Une pluralité de contacts électriques sont disposés dans le boîtier, chacun ayant une partie s'étendant dans l'une des ouvertures et adaptée pour se mettre en prise sur l'un des conducteurs électriques se terminant par un contact. Chacun des contacts électriques a un élément de verrouillage pour retenir le contact associé en une relation fixe avec le plancher. Une gaine diamétralement rétrécissable s'étend à partir de l'extérieur de l'enveloppe de renfort et se rétrécit annulairement autour d'elle, une partie de la gaine étant en prise sur la nervure. La gaine est aussi adaptée pour entourer l'extérieur du câble des conducteurs électriques. Un adhésif ayant un état d'écoulement est placé à l'intérieur de la gaine pour enduire au moins des parties des contacts électriques du câble de conducteurs quand la gaine se rétrécit autour du câble et sur l'enveloppe de renfort, de manière à isoler les parties enduites des contacts et les sceller pour les protéger contre les éléments.
