The present invention relates to a hydrotreating and/or hydroconversion catalyst for heavy hydrocarbon feedstocks containing metals, the said catalyst comprising a support in the form of alumina-based agglomerates, the majority of which are irregular and non-spherical, whose specific form results from a crushing step, and the catalyst containing at least one catalytic metal or a compound of catalytic metal from group VIB and/or from group VIII (groups 8, 9 and 10 in the new notation of the Periodic Table of the Elements), optionally at least one doping element selected from the group consisting of phosphorus, boron, silicon (or silica, which is not part of the silica which might be present in the selected support) and halogens, the said catalyst being composed essentially of a plurality of adjacent agglomerates each formed by a plurality of acicular platelets, the platelets in each agglomerate being oriented generally radially with respect to one another and in relation to the centre of the agglomerate. The specific form of the catalyst endows it with enhanced performance properties in the context of its use for the hydroconversion/hydrotreating of heavy hydrocarbon feedstocks containing metals. The invention likewise relates to the use of the said catalyst, alone or in a mixture, in a fixed-bed or ebullated-bed reactor.

La présente invention concerne un catalyseur d'hydrotraitement et/ou d'hydroconversion de charges hydrocarbonées lourdes contenant des métaux, ledit catalyseur comprenant un support sous forme d'agglomérats à base d'alumine, majoritairement irréguliers et non sphériques dont la forme spécifique résulte d'une étape de concassage, et contenant au moins un métal catalytique ou un composé de métal catalytique du groupe VIB et/ou du groupe VIII (groupe 8, 9, et 10 de la nouvelle notation de la table périodique des éléments), éventuellement au moins un élément dopant choisi dans le groupe constitué par le phosphore, le bore, le silicium (ou de la silice qui n'appartient pas à celle qui pourrait être contenue dans le support choisi) et les halogènes, ledit catalyseur étant constitué essentiellement d'une pluralité d'agglomérats juxtaposés, formés chacun d'une pluralité de plaquettes aciculaires, les plaquettes de chaque agglomérat étant orientées généralement radialement les unes vis-à-vis des autres et par rapport au centre de l'agglomérat. La forme spécifique du catalyseur lui confère des performances améliorées dans sa mise en oeuvre pour l'hydroconversion/hydrotraitement de charges hydrocarbonées lourdes contenant des métaux. L'invention concerne également l'utilisation dudit catalyseur seul ou en mélange dans un réacteur à lit fixe ou à lit bouillonnant.
