Techniques for sending a MIMO transmission in a wireless communication system are described. In one design, a transmitter sends a first reference signal to a receiver. The receiver selects a precoding matrix based on the first reference signal and in accordance with a selection criterion. The receiver estimates noise and interference at the receiver and determines channel quality indicator (CQI) or modulation and coding scheme (MCS) information based on the precoding matrix and the estimated noise and interference. The receiver sends the CQI or MCS information and a second reference signal to the transmitter. The transmitter selects the precoding matrix based on the second reference signal and in accordance with the same selection criterion used by the receiver. The transmitter then sends a MIMO transmission to the receiver based on the CQI or MCS information obtained from the receiver and the precoding matrix selected by the transmitter.
L'invention concerne des techniques pour envoyer une transmission MIMO dans un système de communication sans fil. Dans une conception, un émetteur envoie un premier signal de référence à un récepteur. Le récepteur sélectionne une matrice de précodage en se basant sur un premier signal de référence et selon un critère de sélection. Le récepteur estime le bruit et l'interférence au niveau du récepteur et détermine un indicateur de qualité de canal (CQI) ou des informations de modulation et de schéma de codage (MCS) en se basant sur la matrice de précodage et le bruit et l'interférence estimés. Le récepteur envoie les informations CQI ou MCS et un second signal de référence à l'émetteur. L'émetteur sélectionne la matrice de précodage en se basant sur le second signal de référence et selon le même critère de sélection que celui utilisé par le récepteur. L'émetteur envoie alors une transmission MIMO au récepteur en se basant sur les informations CQI ou MCS obtenues à partir du récepteur et la matrice de précodage est sélectionnée par l'émetteur.
