A method, system and apparatus are disclosed for conducting a reservoir simulation, using a reservoir model of a gridded region of interest. The grid of the region of interest includes one or more types of cells, the type of cell being distinguished by the number of unknown variables representing properties of the cells. The cells share a common variable as an unknown variable. The method includes the steps of identifying different cell types for the grid; constructing an overall matrix for the reservoir model based on the different cell types; at least partially decoupling the common variable from the other unknown variables in the matrix by using a reduction process to yield a reduced matrix; mathematically breaking up the variables in the reduced matrix into k subsets by cell types; applying an overlapping multiplicative Schwartz procedure to the reduced matrix to obtain a preconditioner and using the preconditioner to solve for the unknown variables.
L'invention concerne un procédé, un système et un appareil pour entreprendre une simulation de réservoir, au moyen d'un modèle de réservoir d'une zone d'intérêt quadrillée. La grille de ladite zone d'intérêt comporte un ou plusieurs types de cellules, le type de cellule se distinguant par le nombre de variables inconnues représentant des propriétés des cellules. Les cellules partagent une variable commune comme variable inconnue. Le procédé consiste notamment à identifier différents types de cellules pour la grille; à construire une matrice globale pour le modèle de réservoir sur la base des différents types de cellules; à découpler au moins partiellement la variable commune des autres variables inconnues dans la matrice en utilisant une processus de réduction pour produire une matrice réduite; à décomposer mathématiquement les variables de la matrice réduite en k sous ensembles par type de cellules; à appliquer une méthode Schwarz multiplicative à chevauchement à la matrice réduite pour obtenir un préconditionneur et à utiliser ledit préconditionneur pour résoudre les variables inconnues.
