Quinolinecarboxylic acid derivatives represented by the following formula: Image wherein C is hydroxymethyl, methoxy, ethoxy or morpholinyl, or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof exhibit a potent action for stimulating a serotonin 4 receptor. The compounds exhibit an action of enhancing the gastrointestinal motor function to improve the gastrointestinal conditions such as heartburn, anorexia, bowel pain, abdominal distension, etc., accompanied by chronic gastritis, diabetes mellitus or postoperative gastroparesis, and are thus effective for the treatment of gastro-esophagal reflux, intestinal pseudo-obstruction and constipation.

Cette invention se rapporte à un acide quinolinecarboxylique, représenté par la formule générale (C), ou à un sel de cet acide, l'un et l'autre ayant un effet de stimulation des récepteurs sérotoninergiques, en particulier sur les récepteurs de sérotonine 4. Dans la formule (C), C représente hydroxyméthyle, méthoxy, éthoxy ou morpholinyle. Ces composés ont par conséquent un effet d'activation du transit gastro-intestinal et ils sont efficaces pour soigner les gastrites chroniques, le diabète et diverses maladies accompagnant une baisse de la motilité gastrique et de la fonction excrétoire gastrique après une gastrectomie, telles que les brûlures d'estomac, l'anoréxie, l'épigastralgie et les ballonnements de l'abdomen, et pour traiter l'oesophagite par reflux gastro-oesophagien, les fausses occlusions intestinales et la constipation.
