In known art, information is transmitted via redundant connecting lines. This concept cannot be used easily for the transmission of IP packets. According to the invention, the priority information which is allocated to each IP packet in the TOS field is used to route the relevant IP packet via either the active or the redundant connecting line. If a malfunction occurs, the transmission units are switched over to the redundant connecting line and the high priority IP packets take precedence over the IP packets with lower priority.

Selon l'invention, il est prévu que l'information de priorité donnée avec chaque paquet IP dans le champ TOS soit utilisée pour diriger le paquet IP correspondant soit vers la ligne de communication active, soit vers la ligne de communication redondante. En cas de défaillance est effectuée une commutation sur la ligne de communication redondante où les paquets IP de haute priorité remplacent les paquets IP de basse priorité.
