The present invention is directed to a process for the preparation of amine modified copolymers as a pigment dispersant for cathodic electrocoating compositions comprising the steps of a) polymerizing i) an ethylenically unsaturated monomer containing an isocyanate group with ii) other ethylenically unsaturated monomers having no functional group capable of undergoing a reaction with said isocyanate group to form a copolymer with isocyanate groups and b) reacting stepwise or simultaneously said isocyanate groups with iii) a compound selected from the group consisting of a polyalkyleneglycol monoalkyl ether, an amino-terminated polyalkylene glycol monoalkyl ether and mixtures thereof and iv) a compound containing at least a tertiary amine group and one functional group capable of undergoing a reaction with said isocyanate group and v) optionally, another compound having one functional group capable of undergoing a reaction with said isocyanate group.
La présente invention concerne un procédé pour la préparation de copolymères modifiés par une amine et servant de dispersant pigmentaire pour des compositions d'éléctrolaquage cathodique. Ledit procédé consiste a) à polymériser i) un monomère éthyléniquement insaturé contenant un groupe isocyanate avec ii) d'autres monomères éthyléniquement insaturés ne possédant pas de groupe fonctionnel capable de subir une réaction avec ledit groupe isocyanate pour former un copolymère avec des groupes isocyanates et b) à faire réagir par étape ou simultanément lesdits groupes isocyanates avec iii) un composé choisi dans le groupe constitué d'un polyalkylèneglycol monoalkyle éther, d'un polyalkylèneglycol monoalkyl éther à terminaison amino et de mélanges de ceux-ci et iv) un composé renfermant au moins un groupe amine tertiaire et un groupe fonctionnel capable de subir une réaction avec ledit groupe isocyanate et v) éventuellement, un autre composé présentant un groupe fonctionnel capable de subir une réaction avec ledit groupe isocyanate.
