To prevent poaching of an Internet Protocol (IP) set top box (STB) asset or similar network computing device from one system operator to another, code executing in the IP STB not only authenticates downloaded software images using a public key provided in a serial-number assigned digital certificate, but also confirms that the serial number appears on a signed whitelist, or does not appear on a signed blacklist. The code exe-cuting in the STB further preferably enforces a rule that only the authority that signed the already-loaded whitelist/blacklist may replace it with a new list. Such a sticky whitelist/blacklist ensures that if the STB boots or resets in a new network, the existing authentication list will not be replaced by a list that is valid for a new or different network, and, as a result, that new software code images will not be authenticated.
L'invention concerne le fait d'empêcher des manuvres frauduleuses d'un actif de boîtier de décodeur (STB) de protocole Internet (IP) ou d'un dispositif de calcul en réseau similaire d'un opérateur de système à un autre. Pour cela, un code s'exécutant dans le STB d'IP authentifie non seulement des images logicielles téléchargées à l'aide d'une clé publique délivrée dans un certificat numérique à numéro de série affecté, mais confirme également que le numéro de série apparaît sur une liste blanche signée, ou n'apparaît pas sur une liste noire signée. Le code s'exécutant dans le STB applique de préférence en outre une règle selon laquelle seule l'autorité qui a signé la liste blanche/liste noire déjà chargée, peut la remplacer par une nouvelle liste. Une telle liste blanche/liste noire collante garantit que si le STB démarre ou se réinitialise dans un nouveau réseau, la liste d'authentification existante ne sera pas remplacée par une liste qui est valide pour un réseau nouveau ou un réseau différent et, en conséquence, de nouvelles images de code logicielles ne seront pas authentifiées.
