A femoral neck fixation prosthesis and method of using same which reduces bone loss and the avoids the other shortcomings of the prior art by allowing the fixation of a stable femoral head replacement while reducing the amount of the femur which must be reamed for the insertion of the prosthesis. The preferred embodiment provides that the femoral head (110) is attached to a fixation prosthesis (110, 125, 130, 140) which extends coaxially through the canal of the femoral neck, into the femur, and is then attached to the opposite lateral wall of the femur. In this manner, the prosthesis serves to imitate the original structure of the femoral neck. No other support members, either crosspins or arms extending into the length of the femur, are required.

Cette invention se rapporte à une prothèse de fixation au col du fémur et à un procédé d'utilisation de cette prothèse qui réduit la perte osseuse et évite les autres inconvénients de la technique actuelle, permettant la fixation d'un substitut de tête fémorale stable tout en réduisant la quantité de fémur qui doit alésée pour l'insertion de la prothèse. Dans le mode de réalisation préféré, la tête fémorale (117) est fixée à une prothèse de fixation (110, 125, 130, 140) qui s'étend coaxialement dans le canal du col du fémur, jusque dans le fémur, et qui est ensuite fixée à la paroi latérale opposée du col du fémur. Aucun autre élément de support, tel que croisillon ou tige s'étendant dans la longueur du fémur n'est requis.
