- 5 - Summary: Respiration Airway for emergency resuscitation. To overcome the "disgust barrier" while administering mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to unconscious patients and for the avoidance of mutual infections with contagious diseases, the air tube is made of a curved piece which is reinforced to protect against biting. The curved piece prevents the tongue from falling back into the throat which would otherwise block the trachea. A coverplate fits over the mouth of the recipient and renders mouth-to-mouth contact unnecessary. A standard cone on the donor side permits the adaption of commercial respiration bags to the mouthpiece in every necessary positions. A hydrophobic filter is welded into the mouthpiece and retains blood and saliva in both directions without hindering the passage of breath during mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
