The present invention also provides methods of producing biologically active human tyrosinase. Additionally, the invention provides a non-melanocytic eucaryotic cell which constitutively expresses biologically active human tyrosinase which in turn catalyzes the production of melanin. The melanin so produced may then be recovered.
