ABSTRACT The present invention is directed to a novel process for preparing a naphthalene derivative of the formula: Image (I) wherein each of R1 and R2 is a lower alkyl group; one of R3 and R4 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkoxy group and the other is a lower alkoxy group; and Ring A is a substituted or unsubstituted benzene ring, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. Said compound is useful as a hypolipidemic agent.
