Where material is to be removed from an element (4) of an inkjet printhead having a surface (6) intended to form part of the external surface of the printhead, at least part of the material being removed by ablation using a high energy beam directed at said surface, a protective layer (10) is applied to be in sealing engagement with the surface. The layer is believed to protect the surface from high energy free radicals liberated during the ablation process.

On pense que cette couche protège la surface des radicaux libres à haute énergie libérés lors du processus d'ablation.
