The invention relates to a rubber mixture that can be vulcanized with sulfur, in particular for tire treads. The invention comprises compositions, useful in manufacturing the treads, which give the tire excellent wet grip properties and at the same time, low rolling resistance and improved wear. The composition comprises a rubber mixture which, with regard to 100 parts by weight of the total rubber mass, comprises: a) at least one diene elastomer, b) from about 5 to about 100 pphr finely dispersed precipitated silicic acid, c) from about 0.1 to about 10 pphr abietic acid, dehydroabietic acid, tetrahydroabietic acid, dihydroabietic acid, their isomers, and/or mixtures thereof, d) from about 0.05 to about 2 pphr ultra-accelerators, and e) other usual additives. In preferred embodiments, the rubber mixture further comprises up to about 95 pphr carbon black.
