The invention relates to light transmissive, transflective, or reflective flat panel display devices and, more specifically, to light emissive flat panel displays constructed from high performance electrowetting light valve (ELV) devices (10a-g). An array of ELV devices (10a-g) is mounted on or adjacent to a backlight (11), employing a reflector (13) allowing for improved transmission. The backlight (11) may be partially diffusely reflective or translucent as to also allow for creation of a transflective display panel.

L'invention concerne des dispositifs d'affichage à écran plat à transmission lumineuse, transflectif ou réfléchissant, et en particulier des affichages à écran plat à émission lumineuse qui sont construits à partir de dispositifs modulateurs de lumière à électromouillage (ELV) hautes performances (10a-g). Un réseau de dispositifs ELV (10 a-g) est monté sur une unité de rétroéclairage (11) ou à côté d'une unité de rétroéclairage, et utilise un réflecteur (13) pour améliorer la transmission. L'unité de rétroéclairage (11) peut être réfléchissante ou transparente de manière partiellement diffuse pour permettre la création d'un écran d'affichage transflectif.
