Plate-like titanium oxide reduction pigment consisting of titanium dioxide, titanium sub-dioxide and possibly another metal dioxide or titanium oxynitride, obtainable by solidifying an aqueous solution of a thermally hydrolysable titanium compound on an endless belt, separation of the layer obtained, coating the titanium dioxide platelets after or without intermediate drying in the wet process with additional titanium dioxide, drying and treating material obtained with a reducing agent in a non-oxidising gas atmosphere.

L'invention concerne un pigment de réduction de dioxyde de titane sous forme de plaquettes, constitué de dioxyde de titane, de sous-oxyde de titane et le cas échéant d'un autre oxyde de métal ou nitrure d'oxyde de titane, ledit pigment pouvant être obtenu par solidification d'une solution aqueuse d'un composé de titane hydrolysable thermiquement sur une bande sans fin, par séparation de la couche obtenue, enduction des plaquettes de dioxyde de titane, après ou sans séchage intermédiaire selon un procédé par voie humide, avec un autre dioxyde de titane, séparation, séchage et éventuellement calcination et traitement du matériau obtenu avec un agent de réduction dans une atmosphère gazeuse non oxydante.
