A nutriceutical composition wherein the individual vitamins and other food components are formulated at pharmacological doses is proposed for the treatment of occlusive vascular diseases. Each component has been chosen based on its proven utility, in isolation, in human subjects with established coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease and have suffered at least one stroke, and peripheral vascular disease and suffer from intermittent claudication, and based on the component's particular mode, or modes, of action targeting the individual stages of the disease such that the total composition provides a novel mixture of agents which act additively and in concert with each other in a manner specific to the disease. The composition consists of the metabolic enhancers, L-carnitine and coenzyme Q (ubiquinone); the homocysteine-lowering vitamins, folic acid, vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), and vitamin B12 (cobalamin); a LDL cholesterol-lowering amount of nicotinic acid, or any slow release form, esterified or otherwise; the antioxidants, vitamin C (ascorbic acid), vitamin E (.alpha.-tocopherol), and selenium; and omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids.
