A process for regenerating a plating bath comprising trivalent chromium cations (a trivalent chromium bath). The bath can be continuously, or more preferably, periodically operated with a cation exchange resin. The present process allows the selective removal of hexavalent chromium and divalent metal impurities from a chromium plating bath to enable the plating bath to operate with trivalent chromium.
