Apparatus for covering an opening in a pipe and sealing a gas or fluid leak includes first (92) and second (82) pipe engaging blocks coupled to a frame (12). With the second block (82) fixedly mounted to the frame (12) and the first block (92) movable along the frame by means of a hydraulic cylinder (74) coupled thereto, the first block (92) is positioned over and seals the leak under the force of hydraulic pressure. The frame (12) includes first (14) and second (16) mounting arrangements for attaching an articulated boom (42) such as a backhoe (40). The position of the second block (82) along the length of the frame (12) is adjustable. A guide rod (84) couples the movable first block (92) to the frame (12) to ensure linear displacement of the first block (92) and proper alignment between the first (92) and second (82) blocks during engagement of the pipe. An attachment arrangement (110) is also provided for mounting the apparatus to the entrenching bucket (110) of a backhoe (40).

Cette invention concerne un dispositif servant à obturer une ouverture dans un tuyau pour bloquer une fuite de gaz ou de liquide.
