A novel process for regenerating an alkylation catalyst which contains sulfone components, hydrogen fluoride and acid soluble oil. During the alkylation process an undesirable polymeric reaction by product called acid soluble oil is formed. The buildup of this acid soluble oil in the catalyst can have a detrimental impact on its performance. The novel process utilizes adsorbent materials in a novel way so as to remove acid soluble oil from the catalyst mixture thereby providing regenerated catalyst for reuse in the alkylation process.
