In navigation on land, sea and in the air, during periods of inclement weather, obscured visibility or darkness, where distinct visual reference to land masses, surfaces and other physical obstructions are obscured or not visible at all, individuals and operators of vehicles have had to rely on instruments, electrical or otherwise that provide needle and number displays of proximity to such land masses, surfaces, obstacles, destinations and targets. These displays are typically single dimensional lighted needles or numbers that relate to the observer indications of distance, speed, altitude, proximity and angle. In this invention, these existing instruments are coupled to a computer that converts the instrument signals into digital units that are then displayed on an optical screen in a helmet that the operator is wearing. This computer is simultaneously displaying to the operator a three dimensional- appearing digital view of the geological conditions the operator is near or approaching which is coupled to the instrument indications, so that the operator sees in the helmet a daylight perfect optical display of land mass and obstacles and senses accurate distance, speed, altitude, proximity and angle as if the inclement weather, obscured visibility or darkness did not exist, and the visibility was as perfect daylight.
