A technique facilitates the collection of improved gravitational acceleration measurements and enables use of those measurements in analyzing environmental characteristics of a subterranean region. In one embodiment, a downhole tool is constructed with a gravimeter having a quantum source (50) and an associated detector (52). The quantum source and detector use a velocity (V f) of the quantum source for determining gravitational acceleration measurements (g ) that can be employed in evaluating subterranean characteristics.

L'invention concerne une technique facilitant la collecte de mesures améliorées de l'accélération gravitationnelle et permettant l'utilisation de ces mesures pour analyser les caractéristiques environnementales d'une région souterraine. Dans un mode de réalisation, un outil de fond est construit, ledit outil comportant un gravimètre équipé d'une source quantique (50) et d'un détecteur associé (52). La source quantique et le détecteur utilisent une vitesse (V f ) de la source quantique pour déterminer des mesures de l'accélération gravitationnelle (g) pouvant être utilisées pour évaluer des caractéristiques souterraines.
