There is provided a method for assessing a diabetic patient's risk of experiencing a diabetes-associated pathologic condition, said method comprising measuring the ratio of 3-deoxyglucosene to 3-deoxyfructose in at least one biological sample obtained from said patient after a period of fasting, with reference to the ratio of 3DG to 3DF in a fasting individual having no clinical symptoms of diabetes, a higher ratio of 3-deoxyglucosone to 3-deoxyfructose in said diabetic patient being indicative that said diabetic patient is at higher risk of experiencing said diabetes- associated pathologic condition.

L'invention porte sur une méthode permettant de déterminer le risque d'une affection concomitante chez le patient diabétique. Ladite méthode comprend la mesure du ratio du 3-désoxyglucosène sur le 3-désoxyfructose dans au moins un échantillon biologique obtenu dudit patient après une période de jeûne, la valeur de référence étant le ratio de 3DG sur le 3DF chez une personne sans symptômes cliniques de diabète ayant jeûné. Un ratio élévé de 3-désoxyglucosone sur le 3-désoxyfructose chez ledit patient diabétique indique que celui-ci est à risque plus élevé de présenter une affection concomitante.
