ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides an animal excrement pickup and retainer bag. The bag has a forward open end and a closed rear end. The forward end of the bag is provided with a pair of rigid handle portions, one at each side of the forward open end of the bag. The handle portions have two functions, one of which is to carry the bag and the other of which is to provide a scoop for scooping the excrement into the bag. The bag further includes an internal check flap which guides any excrement scooped into the bag from the forward open end to the closed end of the bag and which inhibits return of the excrement back to the forward open end of the bag thereby trapping the excrement in the bag.
