The present invention provides methods for the treatment, and pharmaceuticals for use in the treatment, of mammalian subjects in, or at risk of, chronic renal failure, or at risk of a need for renal replacement therapy. The methods involve the administration of certain proteins of, or based upon, the osteogenic protein/bone morphogenetic protein (OP/BMP) family of the TGF-.beta. superfamily of proteins, or the administration of certain morphogens, inducers of those morphogens, agonists of the corresponding morphogen receptors, or implantation of renal cells induced with those morphogens. The morphogens useful in the invention are also members of, or based upon, the OP/BMP family of proteins.
La présente invention se rapporte à des procédés de traitement, ainsi qu'aux préparations pharmaceutiques destinées à être utilisées dans ce traitement, de sujets mammaliens atteints d'insuffisance rénale chronique ou susceptibles de présenter une telle insuffisance ou de subir une transplantation rénale. Ces procédés consistent à administrer certaines protéines appartenant à la famille des protéines ostéogéniques/des protéines morphogénétiques osseuses (OP/BMP) de la super famille TGF- beta des protéines, ou à administrer certains morphogènes, des inducteurs de ces morphogènes, des agonistes des récepteurs morphogéniques correspondants, ou à implanter des cellules rénales induites par ces morphogènes. Les morphogènes utilisés dans cette invention appartiennent également à la famille OP/BMP des protéines.
