A catalyst composition and a process for converting a hydrocarbon stream such as, for example, gasoline to olefins and C6 to C8 aromatic hydrocarbons such as toluene and xylenes are disclosed. The catalyst composition comprises a zeolite, a binder, and baron wherein the weight of boron is in the range of from about 0.01 to about 10 weight %. The process comprises contacting a hydrocarbon stream with the catalyst composition under a condition sufficient to effect the conversion of a hydrocarbon to an olefin and a C6 to C8 aromatic hydrocarbon. Also disclosed is a process for producing the catalyst composition which comprises: (1) combining a zeolite with a coke-reducing amount of a binder under a condition effective to produce a zeolite-binder mixture; (2) contacting said zeolite-binder mixture with coke-reducing amount of a boron compound under a condition effective to produce a boron-incorporated or -impregnated zeolite; and (3) calcining the boron-incorporated or -impregnated zeolite.

La présente invention concerne une composition de catalyseur et un procédé permettant de transformer un flux d'hydrocarbures, par exemple de l'essence, en oléfines et en hydrocarbures aromatiques C6 à C8, tels que le toluène et les xylènes. La composition de catalyseur renferme une zéolite, un liant et du bore dont la proportion en poids est comprise entre environ 0,01 et environ 10 % en poids. Le procédé consiste à mettre en contact un flux d'hydrocarbures avec la composition de catalyseur dans des conditions suffisantes pour transformer un hydrocarbure en une oléfine et en un hydrocarbure aromatique C6 à C8. L'invention décrit également un procédé de production de la composition de catalyseur consistant: (1) à combiner une zéolite avec une quantité réductrice de coke d'un liant dans des conditions permettant d'obtenir un mélange zéolite-liant; (2) à mettre en contact ledit mélange zéolite-liant avec une quantité réductrice de coke d'un composé de bore dans des conditions permettant la production d'une zéolite renfermant du bore ou imprégnée de bore; et enfin, (3) à calciner la zéolite renfermant du bore ou imprégnée de bore.
