ABSTRACT The present study dials with the of preparation of modified polystyrene (with a polar group) by reacting the polymy with maleic anhydride in the presence of a free radical initiator (benzoyl peroxide). The reaction was conducted in a roll mill at elevated temperatures. Composites comprising cellulose fiber and modified thermoplastics provided better results. The same properties improved when a coupling agent (e.g. isocyanate) was used. The composite products of cellulose fiber and polystyrene may be made with coupling agents such as maleic anhydride (along with an initiator)/phthalic anhydride/isocyanate or their mixtures.
