A novel metallocene catalyst for the polymerization of olefin (co)polymers is of the general formula: R-SO2-L-M-(X)mTn wherein, M is a metal selected from Groups 3-10; T is a polymerization-stable anionic ancillary ligand; m+n is the valency of M minus 1; R is a C1-C20 alkyl group, a C6-C20 aryl ring or a C6- C20 alkaryl or aralkyl group, optionally substituted with a halogen or an alkoxy group up to 10 carbon atoms; X is a halogen, alkoxy from C1 to C20, siloxy from C1 to C20, N(R)2, a hydrocarbyl group containing up to about 12 carbon atoms, hydrogen or another univalent anionic ligand, or mixtures thereof; L is T as defined above with the proviso that one of the sites available for substitution is the attachment site of the sulfonyl group; and wherein L and T may be bridged.

L'invention porte sur un nouveau catalyseur métallocène utilisé dans la polymérisation de (co)polymères oléfiniques et ayant la formule générale: R-SO¿2?-L-M-(X)mTn dans laquelle M est un métal sélectionné dans les groupes 3 à 10; T est un ligand ancillaire anionique stable à la polymérisation; m+n est la valence de M moins 1; R est un groupe C¿1?-C¿20? alkyle, un noyau C¿6?-C¿20? aryle ou un groupe C¿6?-C¿20? alcaryle ou aralkyle, éventuellement substitué par un halogène ou un groupe alcoxy possédant jusqu'à 10 atomes de carbone; X est un halogène, un alcoxy C¿1? à C¿20?, un siloxy C¿1? à C¿20?, N(R)¿2?, un groupe hydrocarbyle contenant jusqu'à environ 12 atomes de carbone, hydrogène ou un autre ligand anionique univalent ou des mélanges de ceux-ci; L représente T tel que défini ci-dessus à condition que l'un des sites disponibles pour la substitution soit le site de fixation du groupe sulfuryle; et L et T peuvent être pontés.
