Multi-format file transfer can be accomplished, without the need for storing files in each of a plurality of formats, by linking a plurality asset-containing first folders (161-16m), each having a first format, to a plurality of virtual non-asset containing second folders (141-14n) each having a second format. A client seeking an asset in a particular format does so by accessing one of the virtual second folders associated with the asset in the requested format. The access request to the second folder maps to a linked first folder containing the asset in a base format. The asset then undergoes conversion into the requested format. In this way, an FTP server (10) need only store assets in a base format.

La présente invention permet de réaliser un transfert de fichiers multiformats sans avoir à stocker lesdits fichiers dans chaque format parmi une pluralité de formats en reliant une pluralité de premiers dossiers contenant des ressources (161-16m), chacun desdits dossiers ayant un premier format, à une pluralité de deuxièmes dossiers virtuels ne contenant pas de ressources (141-14n), chacun desdits dossiers ayant un deuxième format. Un client recherchant une ressource ayant un format particulier effectue cette recherche en accédant à l'un des deuxièmes dossiers virtuels associés à la ressource présentant le format requis. La demande d'accès au deuxième dossier se mappe à un premier dossier lié qui contient la ressource dans un format de base. La ressource subit alors une conversion au format demandé. Il suffit donc à un serveur FTP (10) de stocker les ressources dans un seul format de base.
