A valve (10) for an internal combustion engine (12 and 14) has a stem (28) and head (30) with differing diameters for the stems (28) and the upper portion of the head (30). A radially irregular blend region (32) placed between the stem (28) and upper head (38) is aligned to have a slight runout, that is, the axis of the blend region (32) is not coaxial with the axes of the stem (28) and the head (30). The blend region (32) is positioned on the valve (10) to be below the valve guide (20) when the valve (10) is closed and in the flowpath of the fuel mixture when the value (10) is open. The radially irregular blend region (32) creates additional turbulence which focuses the fuel mixture into the opening (40) between the open valve head (30) and cylinder head (14), thereby increasing the velocity of the fuel through the opening (20). In addition, a post (42) in the fuel passageway (18) deflects the fuel around the wider portion (36) of the valve head (30).
