ABSTRACT This invention provides a retrofit cover assembly for swimming pools that do not have a cavity to receive a plastic liner and an additional cavity for the installation of a swimming pool cover. A retrofit assembly adapter comprises a longitudinally extending channel member having a base which fits against the coping of a swimming pool. Flanges extend from the base to define a horizontally facing channel. The flanges have lips to leave a narrow slot. One of the lips engages the undercut part of a hook member of a plastic liner and the other lip limits its rotation so that the hook member can be inserted or removed only when it is moved horizontally. The base of the channel has apertures for means for securing the channel to the coping.
