The image obtained by MR imaging of the joint of an animal, including humans, is enhanced by injecting into the joint prior to the scan of an imaging enhancing amount of a nitroxyl functionalized dendrimer containing at least 6 nitroxyl terminal functional groups, e.g, of Formula (I) wherein each R independently is either a nitroxyl group of Formula (II) wherein X is an oxygen atom or two hydrogen atoms, R' is lower alkyl and R" is H or lower alkyl, or a group of Formula (III) wherein R'" is lower alkyl, or a group of Formula (IV): wherein each alkylene in Formulae (I), (III) and (IV) is a bridging divalent alkylene group of 2-6 carbon atoms with 2-3 carbon atoms in the chain and R is as defined herein, with the proviso that the total number of R groups in the molecule which are nitroxyl groups of Formula (II) is at least 6.
Les images obtenues par imagerie par résonance magnétique de l'articulation d'un animal ou d'un homme sont améliorées par l'injection dans cette articulation, préalablement au balayage, d'une dose renfort d'imagerie de dendrimère nitroxyle fonctionnalisé contenant au moins 6 groupes fonctionnels à terminaison nitroxyle, par exemple représentés par le formule (I) dans laquelle chaque R est indépendamment soit un groupe nitroxyle représenté par la formule (II) dans laquelle X est un atome d'oxygène ou deux atomes d'hydrogène, R' est alkyle inférieur et R'' est H ou alkyle inférieur, soit un groupe représenté par la formule (III) dans laquelle R''' est alkyle inférieur, soit un groupe représenté par la formule (IV) dans laquelle chaque alkylène des formules (I) (III) et (IV) est un groupe alkylène de pontage divalent de 2 à 6 atomes de carbone avec 2 à 3 atomes de carbone dans la chaîne et R est tel que défini dans les spécifications, sous réserve que le nombre total de groupes R dans cette molécule, qui sont des groupes nitroxyles représentés par la formule (II), soit au moins égal à 6.
