A method for detecting the presence or absence of microorganisms belonging to the group which consists of bacteria and yeasts in a liquid sample (5) of a biological material. The method comprises placing the liquid sample (5) in a centrifuge tube (6a, 6b) above a gelled system (10) comprising at least (a) a first so-called development phase (1), i.e. a gel comprising a microorganism culture medium and a reagent for inducing a detectable optical measurement change in the presence of microorganisms, said gel being an intimate mixture of water and water-absorbing polymeric particles that have swelled in such a way that, in said intimate mixture, said polymeric particles have (.alpha.) a dry weight concentration of 0.05-0.2 g/ml, and (.beta.) a swollen-state diameter of 90-320 µm, the water in the intimate mixture being at least partially provided by said culture medium; centrifuging; and revealing the presence or absence of microorganisms in said liquid sample (5) at said first phase (1) of the gelled system (10) by means of said reagent inducing a detectable optical measurement change.
La présente invention a trait à un procédé de détection de la présence ou de l'absence de microorganismes appartenant à l'ensemble des bactéries et des levures dans un échantillon liquide (5) d'un matériau biologique; ce procédé comprend l'introduction de l'échantillon liquide (5) dans un tube de centrifugation (6a, 6b) au-dessus d'un système gélifié (10) qui comporte au moins (a) une première phase (1), dite de révélation, qui est un gel comportant un milieu de culture de microorganismes et un réactif induisant une variation de mesure optique détectable en présence de microorganismes, ledit gel étant un mélange intime d'eau et de particules polymériques absorbant l'eau, qui ont été gonflées de telle façon que dans ledit mélange intime lesdites particules polymériques aient (.alpha.) une concentration en poids sec comprise entre 0,05 et 0,2 g/ml et (.beta.) un diamètre à l'état gonflé compris entre 90 et 320 µm, l'eau dudit mélange intime provenant en totalité ou en partie dudit milieu de culture; la centrifugation; puis la révélation de la présence ou de l'absence de microorganismes dans ledit échantillon liquide (5) au niveau de ladite première phase (1) du système gélifié (10), par ledit réactif induisant une variation de mesure optique détectable.
