The device comprises means (5, 6) for generating monomode electromagnetic radiation in an irradiation zone (1). A disc-shaped product to be treated is held vertically in a carriage (2a) and is moved translationally (7) into the irradiation zone (1). Upstream, infrared lights (9, 9a, 9b) subject the product to infrared radiation. Thus, the product is very rapidly defrosted.
