ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for the preparation of anti-bacterial amino- glycoside derivatives, particularly l-N-(2-hydroxy-.omega.-aminoalkyl) substituted aminoglycosides, which comprises reacting an intermediate aminoglycoside derivative having a free amino group with a novel cyclic urethane derivative of an .alpha.-hydroxy-.omega.- amino-aldehyde, reducing the resulting compound to form an intermediate compound having a cyclic urethane group and hydrolyzing the cyclic urethane group to form the desired aminoglycoside derivative.
