ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The specification describes a device for interrupting high voltage electrical current which has a stationary energized element and a movable energized element which is in contact with the stationary element when the current is not interrupted. The device also includes motive means which are connected to the movable element for interrupting the electrical current by rapidly rotating the movable element from the stationary element upon the release of rotational energy stored in the motive means. The device also includes input means which are adapted to supply the rotational energy that is stored in the motive means. A cam member is connected to the input means for releasing the rotational energy stored in the motive means upon the rotation of the cam member a first predetermined number of degrees, and for initiating movement of the movable element upon further rotation of the cam member a second predetermined number of degrees in the event that the motive means is unable to initiate rotation of the movable element after the cam member has rotated the first predetermined number of degrees.
