ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A method and an apparatus for removing components of acidic nature from a waste gas by means of carbonates, which method consists in heating a starting material selec- ted from the group consisting of MeHCO3, MeHCO3 . MgCO3 . yH2O, xMeHCO3 , Me2CO3 . yH2O, xMeHCO3 . Me2CO3 and mixtures thereof where Me represent an alkaline metal, x an integer between 1 and 3, y an integer between 0 and 4, at a temperature from 30 to 200°C in a stream of gas, which gas is selected from a group consisting of fresh air, waste gas from previous treatment, waste gas from previous treatment from which at least partially the components of acidic nature were removed, and a mixture of waste gas with air, so as to form an active carbonate of an alkaline metal free of hydrates, and subsequently contacting at a temperature ranging between 100 and 200°C said active carbonate formed with the waste gas, in the humid state. These method and apparatus give good yields at low concentra- tion and considerably reduce losses of working capacity and human work.
