ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An optical scanning device which includes a single lens for focusing a scanning light beam at a flat field surface, and an arrangement for producing the scanning light beam which provides a light source in the form of an apparent image of a point of light moving along a spherical surface which compensates for the Petzval curvature effect of the single lens. This permits a good spot image to be formed, without requiring the use of a plurality of lenses.
