ABSTRACT OF DISCLOSURE A process for preparing 2,3-dichloro- sulphonyl-acrylonitriles is disclosed by reaction of 3- sulphonyl-propionitriles of the formula R1-SO2-CH2-CH2-CN wherein R1 denotes optionally substituted aryl, aralkyl, alkyl or cycloalkyl with a chlorination agent in the presence of a basic catalyst at elevated temperature.
