TIRE WITH CONTOURED UNDERTREAD Abstract of the Disclosure A tire having an undertread which is contoured to provide a minimum thickness portion at the mid- circumferential plane of the tire and maximum thick- ness portions at points spaced from the mid- circumferential plane. The difference in thickness of the undertread at a minimum thickness portion versus a maximum thickness portion is such as to permit the radially outer surface of the undertread to be contoured to approximate the wear pattern of the tire. The undertread may comprise low hysteresis elastomeric material with a quantity of metallic filaments disposed therein and may be discontinuous at the mid- circumferential plane.
