ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of producing magnesium from magnesium chloride or carnallite produced, using calcium chloride. The calcium chloride is obtained from washing the hydrogen chloride and chlorine-containing waste gases obtained during the production of magnesium in milk of lime. The waste gases from the electrolysis unit are initially washed in a first absorption stage of the absorption process and then the obtained solids (magnesium hydroxide) are separated out for introduction into the third absorption stage to avoid blocking of the catalyst used in other stages of the absorption process.
